What is Japanese Honeysuckle?

Japanese Honeysuckle is an invasive plant that is native to Japan. It is a climber-vine plant. This plant was brought over to the U.S. during the 1800's for decorative purposes and has spread wildly since, this is due to birds eating the fruits and spreading the seeds.

What damage does it cause?

Japanese Honeysuckle grows rapidly and outcompetes native plants for resources. The vines will grow over small trees and shrubs preventing them access to water and sunlight. The vines will also climb larger trees and essentially choke them to death.

What you can do to help?

Remove the vines:

This is an activity I would not recommend doing without a professional present. Look for volunteer opportunities in your local area to remove them.

Spread Awareness

This plant is still actively in circulation as decor so help educate people on other options such as wisteria or trumpet vines as an alternative.
